Meet Tonight’s Staff

Reynaldo Ramirez
Symphony Orchestra Conductor


Reynaldo Ramirez is a co-founding director of Soundscapes and the principal conductor for Peninsula Youth Orchestra. He is also a founding board member of El Sistema, which heavily inspired Soundscapes’ creation.

Reynaldo received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of North Texas in 2001, and his Master’s Degree from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in 2003, both in Horn Performance.  He served as the Senior Director of Education and Community Development for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and Director for Education and Community Engagement for the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. He has been a music educator for more than 20 years and continues to be a freelance hornist, performing with various arts organizations including the Virginia Symphony, Las Vegas Philharmonic, and the Virginia Arts Festival.  

Wesley Benson
Wind Ensemble Conductor


Westley Benson graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Institute. He began studying piano and percussion at age five. He has taught piano and percussion to several students in the Hampton Roads area and continues to maintain a roster of active student musicians. He is the Music Director of the Doorway Singers. He is currently the Wind Band Director for Soundscapes. 

William Hederer
String Orchestra Conductor


In 2016 William Hederer earned his Bachelor of Music Degree in String Performance from Virginia Commonwealth University. For the past five years he has taught with Soundscapes and at two Newport News Public Schools. In 2018 he attended the Certification of Professional Development VCU Conducting Workshop/ Professional Development Clinic under Daniel Myssyk. In 2019 he was accepted to participate in Wintergreen Music Academy’s Conductors Summit under the direction of Erin Freeman and Victor Yampolsky.

Suzanne Warner
Guest Conductor


Playing since 1989 and teaching since 2005, Suzanne Warner has a passion to develop youth through music. She holds a bachelors degree from Bob Jones, University, and a masters from Old Dominion University. She has played seasons in Kansas City,  Missouri, for the Independence Symphony Orchestra, which became the Heritage Philharmonic, as well as Symphonicity in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Teaching and conducting string orchestras for Liberty Academy of the Arts 2009-2018 and Summit Academy 2017-2018 brought her
passion into focus.

Ron Boucher
PYO Program Manager

Boucher has a long commitment and many contributions to the arts in Hampton Roads. He was the founder of the Community Alliance for the Performing Arts. He also served as Artistic Director for the Youth American Players. He also founded and served as director of the Eastern Virginia School for the Performing Arts in Williamsburg. He continues to teach voice through his private studio and is a member of National Association of Teachers of Singing. Boucher’s students have won major professional competitions, have placed in prestigious university and college vocal programs and have performed in opera, Broadway and national touring shows.

In fall of 1976, Boucher made his debut as a principal character with the New York City Opera, “The Saint of Bleecker Street”. He was featured in the Metropolitan Opera’s PBS broadcast production of “Otello”. Boucher also sang with the Connecticut Grand Opera in their production of “Don Pasquale”. His opera credits also include “Abduction for the Seraglio”, “Aida”, “Carmen”, “La Boheme”, and “La Gioconda”. Boucher earned his Actor’s Equity membership in his Broadway debut with the Prince Street Players Production of “Alice in Wonderland”, which also included a national tour performing with major symphony orchestras through a grant received by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Although retired from the professional stage, Boucher has appeared in several CAPA Fund productions. He originated the role of Herr Drosselmeyer with the Youth American Ballet Company. He has also performed as Fagin in the 2006 production of Oliver with the American Youth Players. His musical direction and choreography credits include; Rutherford Wolf, Alice & Wonderland, Emperor’s New Clothes, King & I, Music Man, Wizard of Oz, Oliver, Annie, Sound of Music and You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown.
