Grammy Award-Winning Artist Victor Wooten to Perform
Newport News, VA — Local nonprofit Soundscapes is to host its first-ever Gala! This Gala is to celebrate Soundscapes’ 10th Anniversary and will include a performance by Victor Wooten. Wooten is an American bass guitarist, record producer, educator, and recipient of five Grammy Awards. He has been the bassist for Bela Fleck and the Flecktones since the group’s formation in 1988 and has been named Bass Player of the Year from Bass Player magazine three times. In 2011, he was ranked No. 10 in the Top 10 Bassists of All Time by Rolling Stone magazine.
The evening will also feature Jae Sinnett (drummer, composer, producer, and host of popular NPR jazz show Sinnett in Session) as emcee, performances by Soundscapes’ student musicians, live auction, paddle raise, delicious foods, and special recognition of honorees Robert R. Hatten and Alan Diamonstein. Both Robert and Alan are important community figures who have generously supported Soundscapes since the very beginning. An evening of FUN and Fundraising awaits everyone in attendance!
The Gala will be held at the Newport News Marriott at City Center on September 28th, 2019 from 6pm – 10pm. Individual tickets are $150 each, tables of 8 for $1000, and sponsorship opportunities begin at $500. Visit www.soundscapes.org/gala for more information!
