HAMPTON ROADS, VA — Soundscapes is proud to welcome Sentara Health as its Community Wellbeing Partner for the 2026–2027 program year, bringing together two organizations committed to improving the health and wellbeing of the communities they serve.
Sentara’s mission is to improve health every day. But community health extends beyond the walls of a healthcare facility. It is shaped by the environments where young people grow up, the relationships they build, and the opportunities they have to develop the skills and confidence needed for the future. Through its partnership with Soundscapes, Sentara is investing in a community-based approach to wellbeing that begins during the critical after-school hours.
Sentara’s 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment identified behavioral and mental health, community safety, food security, and economic stability among the pressing priorities affecting Hampton and Newport News. Soundscapes’ free after-school and summer music education programs offer a meaningful way to address several of these interconnected needs, providing young people with a safe, structured place to learn, build relationships, express themselves, and grow.
“At Soundscapes, music is the vehicle. The destination is helping young people discover their strengths, develop healthy relationships, find a sense of belonging, and see new possibilities for their futures,” said Soundscapes Executive Director Carol Minter. “We’re grateful to partner with Sentara in supporting that bigger picture of community health.”
By supporting Soundscapes, Sentara is helping invest in the conditions that allow young people and communities to thrive. The partnership connects community health priorities with meaningful opportunities for youth development, expanding access to supportive relationships, creative expression, and experiences that build confidence and resilience.
