This new Anthem was written by Soundscapes students and created in partnership with Kid Pan Alley. It was performed as the finale during our May 4th, 2025, concert as part of the Virginia Community Music Festival.

Margaret Bonds was a groundbreaking composer and pianist whose work blended classical tradition with spirituals and poetry of the Harlem Renaissance. A close collaborator of Langston Hughes, she used music to celebrate Black culture and tell stories that were often overlooked in concert halls.![]()
Her legacy reminds us that composition is storytelling, and every community deserves to hear its story reflected on stage. 💚🎶
